Deputy Principal

Ian Turbitt

Ian has been a teacher at Henry Hill School for the past 9 years, and is passionate about music and sport.

Ian has always believed in giving children as many different learning experiences as possible to foster their love of learning new things.

Ian says " It is great to work in a school where the students and teachers make you welcome, whether you are known to them, or an unknown visitor".

Acting Principal

Dave Whitlow

Dave has been a valued member of staff at Henry Hill School for the past 5 years.  He likes his classroom to have  a quiet yet busy atmosphere where the children have the confidence and skills to work independently. 

In 2008 Dave gave up his classroom to use his expertise in other areas of the school. He has introduced a whole-school Te Reo Maori programme where he takes lessons in each class which the teacher and children then practice and use until he revisits at following lessons, as well as continuing with his AP duties.

Dave loves music and surfing (although not necessarily at the same time!)  His expert musicianship is often heard in school assemblies, and with the kapa haka group.

Fiona and Janet

 

Room 1 - Year 5 / 6 Whanau Class

Janet Kemp

Janet Kemp has been at teacher at Henry Hill School across all levels for the past 8 years, and the Senior School is lucky to have her returning to them after a year in the Middle Syndicate.

Janet enjoys reading, watching movies, and spending time with her family and friends.

Janet likes her classroom to be a place where the children are encouraged to be independent and think for themselves.  She believes her classroom is an organised learning environment, where the children work hard but still have time for fun!

Room 2 - Year 5 / 6

 Zoe Bridewell

Zoe Bridewell has been a teacher at Henry Hill School for the past 6 years, and has been part of the Senior Syndicate for three years.

Zoe enjoys the challenge of using computers and other technologies to enhance the classroom programme.

Zoe aims to provide the children with a stimulating, rewarding, enjoyable learning environment.

Room 3- Year 5 / 6

Grant Davies

Grant has taught at Henry Hill School for 8 years.  He is passionate about sport, and teaches the children in his class skills to become expert sportspeople.  In his spare time he ;likes to play golf, indulge in the finer points of sport, and spend time with his family. 

Grant runs the school Sports Academy, and plans and organises a range of sporting events and activities.

Grant likes his classroom to be a warm, friendly, and open place where the children feel safe and encouraged.  He loves the fact that his classroom now has access to six computers and is excited about the opportunities his class will now have because of these.  He says that the children have taken to the computers like "bees to honey".

Room 4- Year 5 / 6

Rose Gilmore

Senior Syndicate Leader

Rose has taught at Henry Hill School for 21 years and loves teaching dance, drama, reading, and art. In her free time Rose enjoys running. gardening, reading, and going to the movies.

Rose likes to create a calm, kind, and supportive environment where children are encouraged to be creative and expressive.  Her  classroom programme offers a balance of academic, creative, and physical education opportunities which are planned so that all children feel safe and supported.

Room 5- Year 5 / 6

Jane Keogh

Jane has been a teacher for 4 years, and this is her third year teaching at Henry Hill School.  Her favourite subjects are writing and art. This year she is teaching in our second Year 5/6 Whanau Class. 

In her classroom she likes to create plenty of cooperative learning opportunities where the children can have fun and achieve.  She says her classroom can become "a little crazy' at times as it can involve quite creative activities.

In her spare time Jane enjoys running, shopping, cooking, and catching up with her friends and family.

Room 6 - Year 3 / 4

Sam Golden

Sam started teaching at Henry Hill School part way through Term 2, in 2008.  So far he has thoroughly enjoyed teaching here, and is looking forward to new challenges in Room 6 in 2010.

Prior to joining our staff, Sam spent two years relief teaching in Manchester, England, where he was able to save enough money to travel around Europe, visiting many interesting countries,  before returning to New Zealand.

Sam enjoys surfing, rugby, fishing, hanging out at the beach with friends, and of course, teaching!

Anne Roberts

Middle Syndicate Leader

Anne has taught at Henry Hill School for 9 years, and has 33 years teaching experience.  She has worked in primary education; for hearing impaired children, and as an advisor for Special Education Services.

Anne loves teaching and looks forward to going to school each day. She likes the children in her class to enjoy their learning and to get on with each other.

Anne's interests include the Arts, maths, reading, and literacy.

Outside of school, Anne goes to the gym three times a week, takes pride in her garden, enjoys interior design and floral art, designs her own clothes, and loves to plan and cook exciting dinners!

Room 12 - Year 3 / 4 Whanau Class

Linda Pene

Linda has been with us at Henry Hill for almost 2 years.  She loves sport of all kinds and her favourite teaching subject is reading.

Linda's teaches in the Middle Syndicate Whanau Class, and her class is bilingual, She uses Te Reo Maori for most of her instructions in class. 

Linda's expert guitar playing is often heard during kapa haka, as well as during the waiata her class sings.  She uses many aspects of Maori culture as part of her classroom learning programme.

Miriam Crouch

Miriam has been teaching at Henry Hill for the past 8 years. Her favourite teaching subjects are reading, art and language. 

Miriam enjoys relaxing with a good book, going to the beach, kickboxing, and travelling.

Miriam likes her classroom to be a fun-filled environment where everyone tries their best in all areas.

Dawn Simmonds

This is Dawn's eighth year teaching at Henry Hill School. 

Dawn is an accomplished new-entrant teacher and enjoys teaching at this level. Last year Dawn completed reading-recovery training. 

Dawn's hobby's include walking, gardening, and travelling.  She is known for her healthy lunches, and her kind and caring personality.

Helen loves teaching in the junior school, and her favourite subjects are maths, reading, and written language.

Helene likes her classroom to be a place where the children can have a great time while they learn.

Room 15 - Year 1 / 2  Whanau Class

Kiri Wehipeihana and Tina Burley

Kiri and Tina have both been teaching at Henry Hill School for over 10 years.  They enjoy sharing the teaching in Room 15.  In their spare time they both enjoy outdoor adventures, and spending time with their whanau.

The junior whanau class place great value in Maori culture.  Both teachers love being part of kapa haka, sport, Jump Jam, and at the same time they help the children work hard to be the best they can be in maths, story writing and reading.  The children are encouraged to ask questions, build on their prior knowledge, and to challenge their thinking.

Kiri and Tina help the children to see their own strengths, and to use their successes to build confidence in other areas where they may need help.

Room 17 - New Entrant

Adele Brown

This is Adele Brown's third year teaching at Henry Hill School. Adele enjoys most outdoor activities and in her spare time plays netball, goes swimming, and even rides dirt bikes!

Adele's classroom is fun-filled with a lot of hands-on activities and discussion. The children learn valuable social skills as well as a good mix of structured activities and play, which helps to bridge the gap between kindergarten / kohanga, and school.

Room 18 Year 1 / 2

Lenore Henderson 

Lenore has been teaching at Henry Hill for several years. Her favourite subjects are science, reading, and computers.  Her classroom always has interesting work and projects on display.  This year she has a Year 1 and 2 class.

Lenore believes that children need to be confident about what they are doing and where they are going.  They need to feel safe and confident so they learn to express their feelings, their wants, and their needs in learning.  They need to feel safe enough to be able to take risks.  Lenore likes her classroom activities to be varied enough so that all children are stimulated to learn and try new things.
